Review / First Purchase from ASOS.com | ASOS Shopping Haul

Wednesday, 30 November 2011

Hey fellas !!
Hope you are all doing good..

Since past few days I got many queries about shopping with ASOS.com, an international shopping website offering free shipping internationally.

I had tried making a purchase with them in the past too, but my debit card would never work with their server. So finally, when my friend got her new debit card I tried making a purchase and Voilaa..It was successful. I placed an order for a very cute & smart pair of ASOS Pleat Front Twill Trousers and a Boudoir Lace Bandeau.

I received the pair of trousers today so thought of writing this post as a reply to all the queries and also sharing my experience with the website.

What I loved about the website-
  • Free Shipping- So far the only international website I have come across offering free shipping without any minimum purchase required. What more a shopaholic could ask for?
  • Great Variety- You can find products from different brands as well as from ASOS's home brands at the website. And they have soo much to offer.
  • Fast delivery- I placed my order on 20th November and well in exact 10days I have it in my hands. That's super quick. Isn't it?
  • Sales & Discounts- They keep having regular discounts & sales, so one can get their favorite items at great prices.
  • No custom duties or taxes were charged for my purchase.
  • There's a 30% custom duty charged on the total order value starting this year :(
What I disliked about the website-
Well to be frank there's really not much to dislike about the website except the fact that my debit card was not accepted by it :(
Also the color of the pants is slightly lighter than shown in the picture, but that's acceptable ( with all the lighting & cameras used ).
Other than that, the website is a boon for online shopping freaks.

And I am in love with my trousers, infact this is the first pair of Ready-made trousers which have fit me perfectly and just like second skin..

Here are a few pictures of my purchase-

Now I am thinking of how to pair up my trousers, though White is always an option but I want to try color-blocking. Any suggestions?

Did you like my purchase? What do you feel about Asos.com?
Share your views in the comments below. Would love to know.

Loads of love.

UPDATE (Apr'15) - For all the orders placed with ASOS before April till last year, I didn't have to pay any kind of Custom fees. But recently they have tied up with an Indian courier partner which sends you a mail after you place your order to pay a Customs & Duty fee which can be around 30-40% of your order value. :(

  6. Thanks for visiting my blog! I love ASOS as well! I got a leather aviator jacket from there a year ago and I love it! The only terrible thing was that when it got to Canada, they made me pay an extra $70 for it! It wasn't ASOS's fault at all but now I'm afraid to order anything else from the UK.

I love your blog and I'm happy to be your 100th follower!

    1. It depends brand to brand - I wear a UK 12 and so far I had trouble only with one of the dresses which I ordered in that size. Rest of the clothes were true to size.

  15. i tried to use my sbi maestro a few days back and it didn't work. can you tell me which debit cards do work?

    1. Is it an International Debit Card? I used to have an issue with paying through my HDFC Visa debit card but am able to pay with my Axis Bank VISA credit card. Preferably, you should use an International credit card and also check with your bank on if your card would work with international shopping websites or not.

  16. I just did my shopping in GBP and paid in INR. But I got charged 4.2% more than what I calculated in rupees (with google's help)... While I still think it's worth the purchase, I am wondering if that extra charge was just with my ICICI bank?

    1. Yes! Your bank may charge a conversion fee. I have been charged around 150-200 extra depending on the order amount.

    1. I was never charged custom fees for my orders placed with ASOS till February this year. I placed an order again in April and since then they have started charging Custom fees as they have collaborated with an Indian courier company. I had to pay INR 700 for a parcel worth INR 2000 in April this year.

    2. Hi Nitika,

    1. Hey D! Well if you've already paid the duties (for which a separate mail comes), you won't have to pay any extra duties or charges :)

  20. Do we need to convert rupees to euro to order from asos

    1. Sorry for the late reply! yes, the payment will be done in USD/Euros. You can check the equivalent amount on Google. :)

  21. HEY, CAN WE PAY CUSTOMS THROUGH DEBIT CARD

    1. ASOS mostly accepts Credit Cards and only a few international Debit cards, I would suggest that you keep a Credit card ready and pay the custom fee in advance.
